I wouldn't be so sure. They were smooth and light and if you had a properly built one like I did pretty reliable too. unfortunately quality control sucked back then so a lot of bad ones got loose. Manitou is a lot better again though so all is well

Elka is an amazing suspension company and I'm glad they finally broke into the mountain bike market. I have a feeling they are going to give fox a real run for their money. Than again this looks dam similar to a dhx 5

You could do what i did on one of my bikes, keep the granny ring but lose the shifter. In the few situations where I needed it I just used my hand to toss the chain on the granny ring

mmm not really true with aluminum, that's more stainless steal. the reason here is to make sure the forces are directed to the beads on the side, a weld in the horse shoe would provide no structural support and could cause the entire gusset to stress from inflexibility and crack
